Microsoft expects fastest-ever uptake of Office 2010 release
Microsoft expects customers to adopt the latest version of its Office productivity software at a faster rate than any previous version. The prediction is based on the fact that the beta version of the software has been downloaded and tested by three times as many people as any previous version. Office 2010 is to be released to business officially today (12 May) at an event in New York.

Apple dismisses Android market share claim
Apple has dismissed a report that claims that Google’s Andriod platform now has a greater share of the US smartphone market than the iPhone.  The NPD report said that Android phones — from the likes of HTC, Motorola and Google itself — took 28% of the US market in the first quarter of 2010, ahead of the iPhone’s 21 per cent.

Hard drives better than cloud for small businesses?
An executive from EMC has claimed small businesses would be better off financially buying a hard drive than taking up any cloud offerings. Despite the company talking endlessly about cloud computing over the past few days at its annual conference in Boston, Joel Schwartz, senior vice president and general manager of common storage platform operations at EMC, said it wasn't necessarily the best option for smaller operations.

Nokia plans smartphones unit
Nokia is planning to set up a new unit focused on smartphones as part of a management restructuring. Rick Simonson, head of the mobile-phone unit, is stepping down due to personal reasons. In July, chief development officer Mary McDowell will succeed Simonson, who will continue as senior adviser.
The new unit focused on smartphones, mobile computers and internet services will be headed by sales chief, Anssi Vanjoki. The Finnish company will launch a new line of smartphones later this year. EA Mobile revenues shift up a gear
EA Mobile generated $55 million of GAAP revenues in the first quarter of this year - EA's fiscal fourth quarter.That's up 12% year-on-year. For its fiscal 2010 as a whole, EA Mobile generated $212 million of revenues, up 12% from its fiscal 2009.Mobile accounted for 6% of EA's overall revenues in the first quarter of this year, the same as it did a year ago.

China will unseat the US to become the world's largest consumer of chips by 2014, according to Intel. While much of the world has been languishing in recession, sales in countries like China, Brazil and Russia have driven demand for hardware and services. Android Google Maps – now for cyclists
